Priyanka loses on ‘The Italian Job’ remake

It seems Priyanka Chopra’s tiff with Abhishek Bachchan has led to her losing out a plum project.

Directors Abbas-Mastan had signed Katrina Kaif and Priyanka for their Hindi remake of Hollywood film “The Italian Job”. Even Abhishek is a part of this film along with Neil Nitin Mukesh, Akshaye Khanna and .

The problem seems to have started with Priyanka opting out of Rohan Sippy’s film, which also stars Abhishek. When Priyanka learnt that her role was opposite South star Rana Duggubati and not Abhishek, she decided to drop the film citing date problems.

Rohan apparently was upset with her decision and spoke about this to his close friend Abhishek.

It’s been said that Abhishek, who already had problems with Priyanka, got terribly upset with Priyanka ditching his friend. And if reports are to be believed, Abhishek then managed to convince Abbas-Mastan to drop Priyanka from “The Italian Job”.

As reported earlier, composer-singer Adnan Sami came to the premiere of “3 Idiots” on Dec 23 last year with a lady on his arm. When asked about her, Adnan had simply said that she is family friend who had come down from Germany.

When quizzed further, Adnan said that she had come to Mumbai with her mother and sister to pay condolences to him and family on his father’s death. Since the two families are originally from Afghanistan, they knew each other well.

Now Adnan has made it official that he will tie the knot with Roya on January 31, 2010.

Even though the legal battle with his estranged wife Sabah continues, Adnan is very happy to tie the knot with Roya as he wants to settle down soon.

He told his close friends that Roya has managed to bring sunshine back in his life and also that she had been a great emotional support during his trying times.

The couple has been spotted at quite a few places after the premiere.

Adnan first married Pakistani actress Zeba Bakhtiar, who also acted in Randhir Kapoor’s “Henna”. They have a son called Azaan. After their divorse, Adnan married Sabah Galadari, from a Dubai-based business family. He divorced and remarried her, only to divorce her again in 2009.

After three flops in a row with Yash Raj Films, Rani Mukerji has finally stepped out of the production house and signed a film with an outside banner.

In the last two years, Rani did only three films, and all were with YRF – “Laga Chunari Mein Daag”, “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” and “Dil Bole Hadippa”. Unfortunately for Rani, all three bombed at the box-office.

Now, Rani has been signed for UTV Spotboy’s thriller, “No One Killed Jessica”, based on the controversial murder of model Jessica Lall.

Even though Vidya Balan will play the lead as Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lall, Rani will be seen in the role of a journalist who was instrumental in having the case reopened.

Rani is extremely excited about signing the film, not only because it’s a challenging role, but also since this is the only movie in her kitty. All the best Rani!

It’s been called the biggest endorsement deal in Indian advertising history, and once again Aamir Khan’s name is attached to the record.

Fresh from the super success of “3 Idiots”, Aamir has reportedly landed a Rs. 30-35 crore deal with Etisalat, the UAE’s telecom giant, which entered the Indian market after buying a stake in Swan Telecom in September 2008. Aamir's deal is for three years.

Aamir already promotes several brands, including Tata Sky, Coca-Cola, Parle and Samsung.

Incidentally, two other iconic figures are attached to two separate telecom giants in India - Shah Rukh endorses Bharti Airtel, while Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni is the brand ambassador or Aircel.

In the UAE, Shah Rukh has endorsed du, the country's second telecom operator other than Etisalat.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan, whose recent release "3 Idiots" takes a critical look at India's education system, feels that the infrastructure in the country should be remodelled so that physically challenged people can move around without hindrance.

"Our society barely thinks about the physically handicapped people. It's necessary. There should be proper infrastructure - be it buildings, theatres, roads - everywhere so that they can too have a comfortable access to every places like a normal person does," said Aamir, honouring 18 achievers of the IBN 7 Bajaj Allianz Super Idols awards in Mumbai at the Taj Lands End hotel on Jan 19.

The award is an initiative by the channel in partnership with the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper group to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome their physical challenges to achieve success as well as the individuals who worked tirelessly for the rights of people with special ability.

Rajdeep Sardesai, the editor in chief of IBN 18 Network, told IANS: "I think there is so much negativity in the media. Unless we focus on these kinds of positive stories how will we inspire the next generation? In my case, it happened by working with Ability Foundation (a charitable trust that works to empower disabled) on a project. I realised the remarkable work these people were doing and it shook me."

"It will be an annual event. There are so many such people and it won't be that difficult to find 18," he added.

Television actress and politician Smriti Irani, who was also present at the award ceremony, appreciated the effort and said she is also planning to work with Ability Foundation.

"This is extremely appreciable and an inspiration to those who want to achieve something. People who don't try because of their disablility, I think this award will be an inspiration for them. I am going to work on a project with Ability Foundation and it will be a new beginning for me," she said.

Music director Anu Malik, Lalit and Aadesh Shrivastava were also present.

Salman claims nobody knows Katrina better than him

Salman Khan is fed up of being repeatedly asked about his "Veer" co-star Zarine Khan's resemblance to his lady love Katrina Kaif. The star insists he knows that they don't look like each other at all.

The actor, who appeared on Zee TV's dance reality show "Dance India Dance 2" (pictured above), told the show's grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty: "Dada, the press guys are hell-bent on making me accept that Zarine ('Veer') looks like Katrina and I'm tired of telling them she is not even close to her."

"Nobody knows Katrina better than me and I'm telling you guys, Zarine does not look like Katrina," he added.

Salman thoroughly enjoyed his stay on the sets, said a source.

When the actor saw the male participants lifting the girls high up in the air during their act, he joked: "Guys, now this is something I just cannot do! I may lift really heavy weights, bench press more than most men do but I can never lift a woman that high up in the air."

Releasing on Jan 22, "Veer" is Salman's pet project. Written by the actor himself 20 years ago, the movie is set in colonial India.
